Current News Stories & Asian Translations Can Be Accessed From Search Results

Popular web Search Engine AltaVista has announced the addition of two useful new features. The company has teamed with MoreOver.com to include timely news headlines in its results. Additionally, AltaVista has added the ability to automatically translate pages returned in searches from a variety of Asian languages into English.

Moreover will deliver rapidly changing online news and commentary to AltaVista. Web searchers will now receive a link to the most current news articles related to their search located above AltaVista's worldwide index search results. AltaVista will also provide access to the latest news headlines via a new, specialized news search center at http://search.altavista.com/sites/news/.

AltaVista reports that its news search center users will be able to find relevant news within 15 minutes of its first appearance online.

Additionally, AltaVista has added Chinese, Japanese and Korean to the list of languages its BabelFish translator can translate from. These additions bring the list of languages from (and to) which the site can translate to 6 and the total number of translation possibilities to 19 (e.g. Chinese to English, German to French).

However, in a recent test, we were unable to translate two sites (one from English to Spanish and one from Japanese to English) and received only error messages from the Altavista translator.
