Oxford University Launches 'Oxford Reference Online' Library

Includes 1.5 Million Entries

Oxford University has launched the first phase of its "Oxford Reference Library." The fee-based collection currently includes 1.5 million entries in 20 categories from nearly 100 of Oxford University Press' print reference publications. Searchable material includes dictionary definitions, facts, figures, people, places, sayings, and dates.

Subject areas include:

  • Astronomy
  • Humanities
  • Law
  • Medicine
  • Zoology

By 2010, the University plans to expand the online library to more than 130 million words-equaling the full text of approximately 300 books.

Oxford offers database access to the public and specialty libraries, colleges and universities, and businesses and government offices. Remote access is also available to library patrons through their local (subscriber) libraries. Subscriptions begin at $250/year. A free 30-day trial is available to select institutions/organizations.
